The gene of HSA (Human Serum Albumin) is located on human chromosome 4q13.3 and encodes a protein of 585 amino acids with a molecular weight of 66.4 kDa. HSA is the most abundant protein in the plasma and has many metal-binding sites. HSA and its microparticle form human macroaggregated albumin protein (hMAA) bind water, Ca2+, Na+, K+, fatty acids, hormones, bilirubin and drugs. HSA is the regulation of the colloidal osmotic pressure of blood. Binds to the bacterial siderophore enterobactin and inhibits enterobactin-mediated iron uptake of E.coli from ferric transferrin. Does not prevent iron uptake by the bacterial siderophore aerobactin. Human macroaggregated albumin protein (hMAA) is one of the more common forms of albumin microparticles, which is predominately used for lung perfusion imaging depending on the route of administration of injection and size of the aggregates. MAA may be a useful carrier for DNA vaccines. Serum albumin is a reliable prognostic indicator in liver disease. Oxidative damage of albumin is associated with advanced liver disease.
Each product vial contains 25 milligrams of hMAA in lyophilized form. No bacteriostatic preservative is present. hMAA is prepared from human serum albumin that was negative (non-reactive) when tested for HIV I and HIVII, HCV and HBsAg. The particle size distribution of the hMAA is such that not less than 95 percent are 10 to 90 microns in size. Typically, approximately 90 percent are within the 15 to 70 micron range and approximately 80 percent are within the 10 to 50 micron range. The average particle size is about 30 microns (µm) (master sizer). There are no hMAA particles greater than 100 microns in size.
